Welcome to the home of the South Point Fire Department. The department serves an area of approximately 6
square miles and a population of 5000 people. South Point operates out of 1 station with 3 engines and 1
rescue truck, 1 command truck. The village of South Point is located in Lawrence County, and bordered to
the east by Burlington (Fayette Township) and to the west by Sheridan (Perry Township). The village is
bordered to the south by the Ohio River. In 1926, the Village of South Point purchased a new Seagraves
engine at the cost of $1800. At that time Marion Brubaker was appointed chief. The new truck was housed at
the old Village Hall, which held the mayors office that doubled as council chambers, a small jail in the rear
room, and a narrow garage just wide enough for the Seagraves. This building was later used as a police
station, and then as the South Point station for Seoems medic 12. The building has since been demolished to
make way for parking for the boat docks. Their was no real organized fire department at this time, however. It
was the job of the chief to get the truck to the fire, while villagers, or who ever else was near by, would
respond with no training and little experience. This was a far reach from the bucket brigades of the past, yet
it still did not meet the needs of a growing town. Today we currently have 1 Chief, 2 Asst. Chiefs, 2 Deputy
Chiefs, 4 Captains, 4 Lieutenants, 1 Chaplin, 1 dept. Sec., 24 Firefighters, 2 junior firefighters and 4
Associates (Rehab 14) on the department.
